For more than 27 years, María Laura Vargas Valcárcel worked in CEAS (Episcopal Commission for Social Action). Currently, she is in charge of the Area of Social Teaching of the Church.
Vargas Valcárcel is also the Executive Secretary of Interreligious Council of Peru-Religions for Peace and is the Coordinator of JPIC for the Columban Fathers.
Additionally, she is a member of Pax Christi Peru and of REDLAPSI (The Latin America´s network for Social Teaching of the Church) runs the Human Rights Team for DEJUSOL (Justice and Solidarity Department of CELAM Episcopal Council for Latin América).
Vargas Valcárcel holds bachelor of arts degrees in theology and education with a specialization in social sciences.
Trabaja en CEAS por 27 años, antes trabajó en Lima norte en Programas de alfabetización de adultos y en parroquias de la zona por 17 años. Actualmente es responsable del Programa de Doctrina Social de la Iglesia de CEAS.
Es secretaria del Consejo Interreligioso del Perú-Religiones por la Paz y Coordinadora de Justicia y Paz e Integridad de la Creación de los Padres de San Columbano.
Es miembro de Pax Christi Perú, del equipo de DDHH del DEJUSOL (Departamento de Justicia y Solidaridad de CELAM, Consejo Episcopal Latinoamericano) y miembro de la REDLAPSI, de Doctrina Social de América Latina, (Red Latinoamericana de Pensamiento Social de la Iglesia)
Es Bachiller en Teología y Licenciada en Educación con especialidad en Ciencias Sociales.
